ISLAMABAD– Pakistan has canceled the delivery of 45 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from Qatar and Italy scheduled through 2027, officials from the Petroleum Division confirmed on Friday.
According to the details, Pakistan has withdrawn from receiving 24 LNG cargoes from Qatar that were planned for 2026. From Italy, only one cargo will now arrive in January 2026 instead of the originally scheduled 12, while 10 out of 12 shipments slated for 2027 have also been shelved.
Officials clarified that Pakistan maintains long-term LNG supply contracts with both Qatar and Italy, and the cancellations fall within the permissible adjustment framework of these agreements. Procedures for revising the delivery schedules have already been completed in coordination with the international suppliers.
Italy’s LNG supplier has a 15-year contract with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), while Qatar’s long-term supply arrangement is linked to Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Under normal circumstances, Pakistan imports around 10 LNG cargoes each month to meet its energy requirements.
The cancellation of the planned shipments is part of the government’s strategy to carefully manage LNG imports amid evolving domestic energy needs, while continuing to meet demand through existing long-term arrangements.
